About the Author

Harvey S. Leff is a retired professor from California State Polytechnic University-Pomona, where he is Professor Emeritus of Physics. His research interests are in the foundations for thermodynamics, with specific emphasis on energy and entropy and the relationship between them. He authored some seven dozen articles, letters and book reviews in peer-reviewed physics journals, and serves as a reviewer for a half-dozen physics journals.

Leff co-edited with Andrew F. Rex,
Maxwell's Demon 2: Entropy, Classical and Quantum Information, Computing, published by Taylor and Francis in 2003. The first edition of this book was Maxwell's Demon: Entropy, Information, Computing, published by Princeton University Press [USA, Canada, Japan] and Adam Hilger/British Institute of Physics [other parts of the world] in 1990.

Harvey Leff served as President of the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) in 2007, President-Elect in 2006, Vice President in 2005, and Past President in 2008. He also was a member of the Governing Board of the American Institute of Physics, 2006-2008. He is currently a Consulting Editor for the American Journal of Physics.

He now resides in Portland, Oregon, where he is Visiting Scholar at Reed College. He continues to think and write about physics. A list of his publications is
here.

When not doing physics, Leff plays drums with his twin sons in the Leff Trio (
video clips; audio clips). Prior to his move to Portland, he was drummer for seven years with the Out-Laws of Physics, a band of physicists from California State Polytechnic University-Pomona.
